Completing Zone 180 with this challenge active will reward you with an additional 200% helium earned from any source up to Zone 180."

Helium challenge[]

Watch is a Helium challenge. There are a few rules which are followed by each one of them:

  • The Helium reward from this challenge can be obtained repeatedly for multiple challenge completions.
  • Completing Watch will increase all Helium earned until zone 180 (including 180) by 3x.
  • Helium earned from completing Void maps will also be increased by 3x for each Void map completed on zone 180 or below. More information here.

Rules[]

After completing each zone:

  • Prestige upgrades for Equipment drop, not requiring the player to run maps of that zone's level to earn them.
  • All unassigned Trimps are assigned evenly to the three main jobs - Farmer, Lumberjack and Miner. However, if doing so would leave the player with less than 15% current Trimps left to repopulate, this action will not occur.

Resource production and loot is halved for all resources except Helium. All enemies have 25% more attack.

Strategy[]

In older patches, before automations such as AutoJobs were available before zone 180, the Lead and Watch challenges represented two gameplay paradigms. In Lead, you would assume the role of leader (active player), and lead your Trimps to victory. Success relied on being able to interrupt the game at the end of an odd-numbered zone (a very brief time window), to do your farming with full bonuses. If you failed to make the time window, you would instead be stuck at the beginning of an even-numbered zone, where life sucks. In Watch, you would assume the role of a watcher, and your Trimps would manage themselves for you. Somewhat.

With automations being available much earlier, the Watch challenge is largely obsolete. The only real benefit it offers now is the preview of Blacksmithery (automatic prestige upgrades without the need to run maps). Essentially, the only reason to run Watch now is to pick up the Grindless achievement.

Watch² (the Challenge² variant) is useful for picking up certain speed achievements if you haven't got Blacksmithery yet, but have enough income perks to compensate for Watch's production penalty without much mapping.

Grindless feat[]

This one is challenging, and you shouldn't expect to be able to do it at the time you unlock Watch. The lack of metal for prestige upgrades will be your primary bottleneck. The Bone Shrine can help with this, as a replacement for mapping to farm metal.

The Home Detector mastery isn't really needed, because by the time you're ready to do this feat, you should have no trouble getting to Warpstations and Gigastations, which will then become the dominant part of your population.

Trivia[]

  • Before patch 3.5, Watch would assign all possible workspaces to jobs regardless of whether there'd be leftover unemployed Trimps, which could sometimes completely halt breeding.
